Home for Good

Andrew is now home for good! His rehab at Lochgilphead hospital finished on Friday. On his last day at Lochgilphead Hospital he did a sponsored walk for breast cancer in which his challenge was to walk a mile. He completed his walk in a time of 2 hours. This was an amazing feat and a big achievement for Andrew, as we were told that he would never walk again!! How wrong they where!!

On his first weekend home for good he also enjoyed dressing up in a pimps costume for a night out alone with his friends at a Halloween disco.

Andrews total time spent in hospital was 2 years and 7 months, after his accident on the 13 march 2007. At the start he was not expected to live but look at him now he is back home with family and friends.

In a fortnight Andrew will be moving into his own home in Tarbert, which is something he is really looking forward to. The last few weeks he has spent shopping for things for his new home and the house is nearly ready for him.

Andrews will still continue with physio at Lochgilphead hospital with his cousin Jessica three times a week.

Andrew can now look forward to the future, and decide what he wants to do with his life. There is still lots of improving that he can make to his own body but he will work on that himself. Before the accident he used to go to football training, perhaps now is the time for him to set himself a goal of getting back into that routine and try to get himself fit again. Its all down to him. The last 2 years he has made a remarkable recovery its been his hard work that has done it with his sheer grit and determination. Doctors wrote him off at the start but how wrong they where!!!

On January the 13th, 2010, Andrew will go back to the Southern General for a short stay to have the part of his skull replaced where the damage was made from the accident, although it will be a metal plate that will go in, this for Andrew, will make him feel back to normal, feeling his head and feeling that its all there will make him alot happier.

Onwards and Upwards Andrew...you are just simply PHENOMENAL!!!

Moving On

Andrew has now left the Rehabilation hospital in Wishaw. His time at the centre came to an end last friday and he is now in Mid Argyll Hospital in Lochgilphead. This was the best option available to Andrew as his rehab will continue, there he will get physio every day of the week from his cousin Jessica and also he is only 15 minutes from home. Andrew still will go home on a friday night and back to the hosptial on a sunday night. Other options available to Andrew at Lochgilphead are Hyperbaric oxygen chamber which we are currently looking into also Jessicas assistant is qualified for Mid Argyll swimming pool which he hopes to go to twice a week with Jessica and her assistant. Also available is access to Mid Argyll Sports Centre where it is hoped Andrew will go for a workout. Unfortunately our plan for Andrew to work with a personal trainer in Glasgow never materialised as rules and regulations put this to bed but it is now hoped we will find a personal trainer in Mid Argyll to work with Andrew. We are also currently looking for a reflexologist to work with Andrew in Argyll as he has moved now he will no longer be able to work with Louise who over the last 28 months has been incredibly loyal to Andrew travelling a two hour round trip, once even twice a week to work with Andrew. We will all miss her especially Andrew who over the last 28 months became very close friends.

For anyone wishing to visit Andrew he is in the Glassary Ward in Mid Argyll Hospital.
